The Community of Practice on Communities of Practice

Participants comments

These quotes illustrate the experience that previous participants had during the Connected Futures workshop.

“The whole tech steward discussion was one of the urgent needs of my community. It was exactly what I was looking for and frankly was knowledge when I needed it.”

“The field trips were an eye opener to different ways of organising working together”

“I would recommend the course for anyone thinking about setting up an online CoP, who wants to know what the major considerations are and what kinds of tools are available to them.”

“The people in this workshop offered such amazing insights and support from the questions they offer to the solutions they have described or engaged in. I only wish we had another week or two … but then I suppose we do in CPsquare?”

“Connections with the leaders/facilitators was excellent….”

“I felt everyone was actively trying to apply what was learned and was interested in helping one another. ”

“Just the right amount of reading, in my view. Top-notch, cutting edge, hot off the presses …”

“[The readings were] easy, good use of examples in the chapters, relevant to my work.”

“Allow plenty of time to participate and be prepared to be stretched out of your comfort zone, an exciting but challenging exploration of ways to make your CoP more dynamic.”

“I have already told people about this workshop. I have suggested that they take it but they really do have to want to explore technology and be able to deal wtih the experimental aspects of this approach to learning. Also, it may be that there are people who have more sophisticated technology skills and they might get frustrated with people like myself and other newbies. not sure.”

“My suggestions to future participants:

  • Do something every day with a tool that is “on the table” that week.
  • Outline your goals at the beginning.
  • Show up for everything. (I regrettably missed one call, which couldn’t be helped because of a training I was delivering, but otherwise, the volume of time I invested was an important factor in my feeling that the course was a success for me.)
  • Don’t be afraid to customize the work to suit your needs.
  • Learn from the other students.
  • Treat the “wrap-up last week” and “transition to next week” correspondence from faculty as your touchstones, as checklists for what you need to get done to finish one week and get off on the right foot for the next”
